Ricciardo is ready to ' get the horns ou Austin
Austin, United States Of America
Renault's Daniel Ricciardo said that he had put a run of disappointing qualifying performances behind him at the Circuit of the Americas by making the Q3, and that he was ready to make up positions starting on Sunday's soft tyres.
Ricciardo's P9 in qualifying was his highest in the Five Grand Prix, and Honey Badger was obviously pleased when he made it to Q3 for the first time since the Italian GP–where he finished.
"We had a tough few weeks in qualifying where I wasn't too happy with myself, but today it was a lot better and I extracted more or less of everything from the car," he said.
"We're going to give it a go tomorrow, I'm going to get the horns out and look ahead. We're starting on the soft one. Maybe it's not the best tyre to start the race, but it's what it's like." We're on the clean side of the track, too, so we're going to make some places out there and get our heads down there.
As for teammate Nico Hulkenberg, who starts 11th after missing out on Q3, there may be a silver lining as he gets a free choice of tyres in the race-meaning he has the option to start on a more robust medium or hard rubber.
"I've lost a little bit of pace, a little bit of unity and equilibrium, and that's clear enough to tip you off," he said. "Eleventh is a good starting point, [ it ] offers us flexibility and policy – who knows what it's worth tomorrow?
However, not all of Ricciardo's smiles were in Texas, as he admitted that he wanted more time to enjoy the sights, flavors, and sounds of Austin.
"I love this place," he said. "But I was a little sad this week because I got here late, early Thursday morning, and that meant I was on the track, I haven't had a chance to see any live music yet, to eat any barbecue.
