Man being honored after he saves a drowning driver
A driver after crashing his car into a bayou was saved by a stranger from drowning. He was honored on Monday by the Fort Bend County Constable for Precinct 2. Without worrying about himself, John Greco selflessly jumped into the water to save the driver.
”I could see the top of the water being ruffled like this," Greco recalled. “That man was underneath there. He must have been doing something.”
Greco was driving South on the Fort Bend Tollway when he saw a car losing its control. After the accident, he parked his car and ran down to the embankment, jumping into the water. Inside Greco found the driver struggling. Once he was able to get the driver to the embankment, a constable was waiting to help them pull out.
“He had like three layers of clothes on and he had cowboy boots on,” Greco said. “Cowboy boots is full of water. Lesson learned if you’re ever trying to get somebody out of the water, the first thing to do is say, ‘Do you have cowboy boots? If so, you have to take them off. “He was appreciated for his quick action by Constable Daryl a Smith.
Greco is not particularly a religious man but he believes that God himself saved the driver. “I told him before I left, I knelt down and I said, ’God blessed you today.' I hope that he heard that,” Greco said.
The crash was reported as an accident. The driver refused to have any medical examination the day of the crash.
