A 17-year-old boy died at Valentine’s Day party in the San Fernando Valley amid shooting. According to the police, the male suspect got into an altercation with the victim. He pulled out a handgun and shot him multiple times. The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle. Two more males were wounded in the shooting. They were taken to the hospital and were released after treatment. The identity of the deceased teen has not been revealed yet as police were yet to notify the family.

The crisis of homelessness in Calfornia is prevalent in Los Angeles. Tens of thousands of residents are struggling to hold a permanent resident in the city. In the meantime, most of the homeless crowd is also fighting with the issue of substance abuse. The last survey on homeless people was conducted in 2019. The study reported showed 36,165 people struggling with a constant living situation.
The report suggested an 18% increase in homeless people when compared to the 2018 survey. The Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority reported the study. Out of the stated number of homeless citizens, 8,944 were reported to be living in shelters, whereas 27, 221 people don’t even have a shelter on their heads. Los Angeles remains the least affordable market in terms of houses in the USA. The number of people living in cars, vans, and under makeshift tents increased in 2019.
60,000 Marijuana convictions will be dismissed by Los Angeles.
Los Angeles has decided to dismiss marijuana convictions in the city, which are believed to be in the range of 60,000. The decision has arrived years after the drug of legalized in the state. Code for America, a not-for-profit technology organization, will work with the nation to identify the cases. The organization will use various algorithms to determine the eligible cases within court documents ranging back to decades.
The district attorney of LA stated on Thursday that the decision would provide relief to tens of thousands of colored communities who were mistreated by the drug laws on the country. Prosecutors asked the superior court judge to dismiss 62,000 cases of Marijuana dating back from 1961. Four thousand misdemeanor cases of cannabis possession cases were also dismissed. Reports suggest that 32% African American, 45% Latin Americans and 20% white will be relieved of the charges.
Inaugural Frieze Los Angeles Film Award bagged by Silvia Lara.
Silvia Lara, who is in the front row of up and coming filmmakers, has bagged the first Deutsche Bank Frieze Los Angeles Film Award on Thursday at the opening of Frieze LA. She defeated nine finalists to win a cash prize of $10,000. The award was granted in collaboration with the non-profit Ghetto Film School.
The motive of the awards is to recognize the filmmakers who are based in Los Angeles and are aged between 20 to 34 years of age. The award is a part of the second annual Frieze Los Angeles art exhibit. The exhibit takes works from over 70 galleries around the world and is held in Paramount Studios.
Beauty Never Lost, the movie made by Lara, was created during a three-month program she attended at Ghetto Film School. The film captures the life and inhabitants of Whittier in California. A series of vignettes are used to capture the experiences.

Christina Koch who has completed 328-day mission on the International Space Station wasn't sure if she was more excited or her dog when both of them saw each other. She posted a video on Facebook on Thursday where the dog is seen standing while waiting for her to arrive. One she opens the door, the dog jumped over her and showed how much he loves her. In her post, she wrote, "Not sure who was more excited. Glad she remembers me after a year!"
She got the dog, named as "Little Brown Dog," or LBD for short, from the Humane Society. Koch is known to have spend more time in space than any other woman and has made history while she was on her 328-day mission as she took part in the first all-female space walk.

14-year-old to face murder charges for stabbing a college student to death
New York police have announced that they have arrested a 14-year-old boy on Saturday who fatally stabbed a teenage woman during a brutal Manhattan robbery. The incident took place two months ago that stunned the city. Rashaun Weaver was taken into custody on Friday night. This arrest came into light after a 13-year-old boy was arrested in December in connection with 18-year-old Tessa Majors’ murder at Barnard College. According to the reports, Majors was stabbed multiple times on 11th December when he was walking through Harlem’s Morningside Park close to her school. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead. Majors, who were from Charlottesville, Virginia, was a freshman at the all-women college. Unlike the 13-year-old, whose case is being prosecuted in family court, Vance said Weaver is being charged in criminal court as an adult.

Deliberations to continue in trial of former president
The day was ended by a jury with no verdict in the case of sexual assault case against Ari Goldstein, former Temple University fraternity president. The 23-year-old is facing charges on the accusation of sexually assaulting one woman while attempting to assault another. Out of these two woman, claimed that although she had consensual sex with him one time back in 2017 but it later became aggressive and she was forced into doing sexual acts even after saying no. Other woman says in 2018 Goldstein welcomed her to his house to smoke cannabis. She asserts he nailed her down and endeavored to explicitly assault her. She says she let him know that she did not wanted to do it and then ran out. All through the preliminary Goldstein has kept up his innocence and his lawyer says the charges are bogus. Investigators contend Goldstein was foolish and didn't stop when the ladies said no to him. Jury considerations are required to proceed with Tuesday morning.

Light rains in eastern Rajasthan on 20 February as temperatures rises
For the last few days, day and night temperatures in the state have been increasing. However, mercury declined at most places in the state at night. In Jaipur, where the temperature was 16.2 degrees 3 nights ago, it fell to 12.4 degrees last night.
In Jodhpur, the mercury dropped from 14.2 degrees to 12.3 degrees. In Ganganagar, the mercury dropped from 13.4 degrees to 8.8 degrees. The lowest temperature last night was 6.5 degrees in Mountabu while the highest temperature was 15.2 degrees in Barmer. Last night, the temperature of nine cities was above 10 degrees. Nowhere the temperature was five degrees or less.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will be dry from February 17 to 19 in eastern and western Rajasthan. On February 20, the weather will be dry in East Rajasthan, but there may be light rains in western Rajasthan. On the other hand, in the capital Jaipur, the weather will be clear till February 19, but on February 20 it can be mildly cloudy. On February 21, there may be light rain with thunderstorms.
Rajiv Bansal becomes the new chairman of Air India
On Monday, senior IAS officer Rajeev Bansal took over as chairman and managing director of Air India leading the disinvestment.
Before Rajiv Bansal, Ashwani Lohani was the chairman and managing director of Air India, which completed its one-year term last week. Air India gave information about this by tweeting.
Lohani, a 1988 batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre, was additional secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas prior to his posting. In August 2017, Bansal was the interim CMD of Air India for less than three months. Even then, he had replaced Lohani. Lohani was then appointed as the Chairman of the Railway Board.
