The Mr. Chow restaurateur's 30,000-square-foot mansion is more like a live-in museum
A museum-like Los Angeles home developed for the restaurateur Michael Chow had just hit the market for a whopping $69.9 million. Mr. Chow's owner and his ex-wife built a 30,000-square-foot home from scratch, and they've been trying to sell it for a year, even lowering the asking price from $78 million.
The sprawling Holmby Hills property had taken over seven years to build and was finally completed in the mid-2000s. This was said to have been designed to mimic the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and to show off the massive art collection of the couple, according to the listing
Inside there is a 30-foot entrance with 400-year-old Moorish columns and sculpted ceilings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The library features Art Deco styles, and throughout the house are antiques mixed with modern art pieces, as well as beautiful home elements such as carved fireplaces, stone archways, and interior balconies overlooking the main living areas.
A three-story guest house, a cinema billiard rooms, a roof terrace, as well as an outdoor party dining area are all part of a one-of-a-kind home. The gardens are equally as impressive, with a swimming pool, a large manicured lawn, and tall palm trees.
It's not known who has been living at home after Chow and his new wife, Vanessa Rano, purchased two nearby properties from singer Katy Perry earlier this year. Homes are located in the Hollywood Hills, formerly owned by oil heir Aileen Getty.
