Memphis pastor convicted of swindling st Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn.-The young pastor of Memphis is accused of swindling more than a dozen people into believing that he was running a new church with a big name on it.
The Greater Victory Church of Memphis began and closed in a matter of weeks, and former staff members told that the church at first seemed legitimate.
Senior Pastor Jaycolby Robinson said that it was a plant church under the Bellevue Baptist Church and associated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Several staff members say that after being hired, Robinson also gave the majority of people letters with salaries and start-up days.
But after a few services, members say they realized these positions and the church wasn't real. A new church for millennials with a service beginning at 1 p.m. Regina Osei said that's how 22-year-old Pastor Jaycolby Robinson defined Memphis ' Greater Victory Church.
"He said it was a church plant through the Bellevue Baptist and Southern Baptist Conventions," Osei said.
After submitting for an online and informal interview process, Osei was hired as an associate pastor of the new church. When she joined the team, she said that Robinson told her that there was a delay in funding and that nobody would be paid until October.
