A Minneapolis Man Arrested for Assaulting A News Anchor for Presumed Sexual Identity

A 39-year-old Minneapolis man was arrested on Friday with third-degree assault, as he injured a TV anchor Matt Belanger. Along with that, the attacker named Vennie Jerome Williams also faced charges of harassment as he executed the crime over a belief about the sexual identity of the anchor. The criminal accomplished the crime on May 12 at a downtown Minneapolis light rail platform.

After the complaint was registered, the police force of Metro Transit reciprocated to the 4th street and Marquette Avenue in Minneapolis where the victim stated that a man whom he was unable to recognize, smacked an item at him as he was passing by the Nicollet light rail platform and resulted in injuring his left eye.

As the investigation proceeded Williams was arrested because of surveillance footage gathered by the officers. The attacker confessed that he alleged that the victim was homosexual. Williams is scheduled to make his first court appearance on May 18.

Belanger went through a complete checkup and was diagnosed with traumatic hyphemia of the left eye; he is advised to stay at home and avoid doing anything.

Minneapolis to resume worship, weddings and funerals

After consulting with faith leaders and new guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control, Gov. Tim Walz issued an order which allows places of worship, wedding and funerals to reopen from Wednesday. This executive order 20-62 permits the reopening with gatherings of not more than ten people with the following requirements:

  • Maintaining a minimum of six feet distance between households is mandatory.
  • Indoor gathering occupancy must not be over 25% of the overall capacity.
  • Outdoor get-togethers must include a maximum of 250 people.

The governor urges Minnesotans to limit their in-person interactions and those at risk to stay at home. He also clarifies that the order does not permit receptions and communal sharing of food.

Archbishop Hebda stated that as told continuously by the bishops of Minnesota, pastors and parishes can resume public Mass. But they should only restart if they are confident of maintaining the sanitization and ensuring that the protocols such as following the changes in the liturgy, mainly related to the reception of Holy Communion.

In response to the tweet of President Donald Trump, where he regarded worship to be essential, many faith leaders came up to thank the decision. They pointed out that the religious groups were feeling left behind and that now, every leader will ensure safety.

Also, the battle for reopening restaurants and bars continues. And due to a recent COVID-19 in a graduation ceremony, the new order does not apply for these ceremonies.

Subsequent shooting in Minneapolis after barring get-togethers

A subsequent shooting in Minneapolis was reported after the gas station incident. This shooting occurred in a Folwell neighbourhood house party, leaving five people injured due to gunshots.

Authorities state that four young people were injured at the local party, three by gunfire. It was, in any event, the second such occurrence since a statewide request notwithstanding enormous get-togethers to slow the spread of COVID-19 became effective.

According to cops and scanner traffic audio, the first shooting took place around 6:30 pm, at the Holiday gas station at 1624 N, Washington Av., where two people inside a black Chevrolet Malibu were attacked with several rounds of fire into the car. The injured victims could barely drive to HCMC where they were treated. As reported, a gun was also recovered from their vehicle.

Observation video from the service station demonstrated the suspect discharging a semiautomatic handgun with an all-inclusive magazine, as per the scanner audio.

The second shooting occurred near N. 33rd and Emerson avenues, around 10:30 pm, leaving four 18-year old victims, who were attending the house-party.

Later after the shooting, officials fanned out through the area checking for extra casualties.

In a likewise shooting a month ago, the 27-year-old grandson of local civil rights pioneer Spike Moss was shot at a get-together in the 1100 square of N. Irving Avenue, Near North neighbourhood.

The writer apologized to a man who spent 16 years in prison for her rape

Alice Seabold apologized for the illegal conviction of a man who was found not guilty of raping her in 1981.

In her first book, Lucky, Seabord described being raped. Anthony Broadwater was convicted of the crime. He spent 16 years in prison and was on the sex offender registry for more than 20 years.

Seabold also wrote the novel The Lovely Bones, which Peter Jackson turned into an Oscar-nominated film.

"I am most sorry that the life you could have been unjustly stolen from you, and I know that no apology can change what has happened to you," Seabold said in a statement.

A statement released by Broadwater's lawyers said he was "relieved that she apologized."

Seabold's first autobiographical novel sold more than a million copies, which marked the beginning of her writing career.

In it, she described in detail how an 18-year-old student at Syracuse University in New York was raped.
