His appearance in Madison Square Garden was the first in his hometown since switching his permanent residence in Florida.
President Donald Trump was greeted by a mix of boos and cheers Saturday night as he walked into Madison Square Garden to attend the Mixed Martial Arts Final Fighting Championship.
The appearance was his first in New York City since announcing that he had changed his permanent residence to Florida, and it was also the first time that a sitting president attended the MMA event.
The reaction came only six days after Trump was rounded up at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., where he was in the World Series.
Although UFC president Dana White is a Trump supporter, the sport of many Latino, African American and immigrant fighters is not, of course, a political turf for the president. Perhaps reflecting its large Latino fan base, the Mexican beer Modelo replaced Bud Light last year as the official brew of the organization.
Edward Norton's latest Motherless Brooklyn project is the first one he produced, directed and acted in.
A black detective film set in New York in the 1950s, the film shows Norton playing Lionel, a private eye with Tourette's Syndrome. He bends and blurs the words— as is characteristic of Tourette's. He's smart, too, with an amazing memory.
Long in the making, Motherless Brooklyn is based on Jonathan Lehem's 1999 novel of the same name, written in the ' 90s. But Norton shifted his film to the ' 50s, partly to explore a long-standing obsession with the influential urban planner Robert Moses, and New York City reshaped the work behind the scenes of Moses: "The dark, shadow story of how New York was actually built — discrimination that was kind of baked into the city," Norton said during an interview.
Norton even invented the character of Alec Baldwin, Moses Randolph, to stand up for Robert Moses. "And it suddenly seemed to me that ... if we went to the ' 50s, Lionel could be a terrific vehicle to get deep into the gloom of what happened in New York at that time," Norton says.
When Meb Keflezighi ran his first seventh-grade competitive race, his motivation was easy: getting a t-shirt for his school running club that his older brothers always wore.
Yet, having run a mile in five minutes, 20 seconds, he found that he had a rare talent. His teacher told him, "You're going to go to the Olympics" at the time, and word spread quickly in the school.
"I didn't speak English at the moment, but my picture of the gym made history," said Keflezighi, who immigrated from Eritrea to the United States. "They said, ' Oh, here's the quickest boy, ' and people started offering me a high-five," he said. "And that's how my running started."
Today, 44-year-old Keflezighi is the only runner to win the Olympic Medal, the Boston Marathon, and the New York City Marathon. This year's New York race, expected to attract more than 50,000 runners, will kick off on Sunday morning.
However, those highs have also come up with their fair share of challenges
Before he won the New York City Marathon, Keflezighi faced a number of setbacks that led him to question whether he could ever run again. That included a stress fracture in his hip, which left him crawling on his hands and knees just to get around.

Steven Nadeau owns a restaurant at the Canadian Border. His restaurant was always full of various customers. He always jokingly used to say his place was internationally renowned. His wings and deep-dish pizza were highly famous amongst the northern neighbors of the country. He states that he even bought a second cash box just for keeping the Canadian dollars. However, in recent times, immigrants from Canada have dropped drastically. Nadeau, however, considers himself lucky that his shop managed to stay open when the other in the region either shut down or are on the verge of shutting down.
The visitors have declined in the Massena area in the New York state. One of the reasons for the decline is the value was Canadian dollars, which have gone down. However, the locals feel that the strict immigration laws which were primarily made for Mexican Border have also affected the fall in the number of Canadian visitors.
