Omaha hospital may get overwhelmed with COVID-19 cases

The local and state official said on Friday that they are keeping a close eye on the healthcare centers and other medical centers as they worry it may become overwhelmed and workers may get fatigued.

Leaders at Nebraska medicine said that they are dealing with around 70 patients every day on an average.

But as the number of severe cases is increasing, they face some problems showing how delicate the system is.

"It's, you know, critically important to understand that the system is relatively fragile and can still be overwhelmed," said Dr. Mark Rupp, chief of the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Division of Infectious Diseases and medical director of infection control and epidemiology.

According to these leaders, the number of patients who require extra and intensive care is increasing day by day.

Douglas County Health Department Director Dr. Adi Pour said the hospitals' high capacity is not directly related to COVID-19 only.

She said that they are looking at the factors which are making up the full percentage.

"We've been dealing with the COVID pandemic for several months in our area and, quite frankly, the folks who are caring for these people in the critical care setting with the most ill patients, are fatigued and we are stressed," he said.

Omaha Summer Arts Festival goes virtual

The Omaha Summer Arts Festival will be virtually conducted for the first time in its history of 46 years. The festival fans can celebrate the arts from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 6 at the time of Virtual OSAF. Cameron Logsdon, local comedian and writer, will be the host for the festival. OSAF will be streaming live on the OSAF channel, OSAF Facebook page as well as Omaha’s public access television station, KPAO- Cox channel 22 and channel 89 Century Link.

Gift cards worth $2500 will also be awarded during the fest, as informed by the event organizers.

Omaha Police tweeted out this image of Officer Kerrie Orozco, which shows her accepting an honour for her work with Special Olympics Nebraska. Omaha police had tweeted out a picture of Orozco that depicted her receiving a laurel for her work with the Special Olympics Nebraska.

On this day, Douglas County Dispatch will pay respect to official Orozco by playing her final call. People recollect Orozco's work on the police force and with kids in the network.

There are numerous tributes around the zone including plaques, a bridge, honour horses, and a baseball field at Miller Park dedicated last June. Orozco's five-year-old girl, Olivia, tossed out the absolute first pitch at that field.

Waterloo-shooting death investigation remains ongoing

Officers are investigating a fatal shooting in Waterloo.

According to Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports, on a notification of a shooting casualty, police were called to UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital around 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Police informed the man was taken to the medical clinic in a private vehicle, and passed away, on a shot time subsequent arrival.

An autopsy has been booked at the State Medical Examiner's Office. No different subtleties were promptly discharged, including the man's name.

Horse-drawn carriage rides resume in Omaha's old market

Due to lockdown in many parts of the world, a city in Omaha has reopened it's horse-drawn carriage rides in the old market. According to the owner of Magical Journeys Carriage Service, Mark Donovan of age 61 said it was the right time to reopen it and the horses looked very happy to see them after a long time. Donovan tested the Waters on Friday and Sunday as Saturday was rained out by making rounds of two carriages. The owner, the horses, as well as employees, looks very happy to see him as it gave back a little normalcy. Due to coronavirus, some precautions were taken as the drivers wore masks and disposable gloves and the carriages were sanitized between every ride. Donovan told all the riders wore masks but the customers don't wear anything. Till now half of the restaurants were opened and he operates only two till now. The rides are started at 6 pm on weeknights and 2 pm on weekends and shifts were rotated the keep the eight horses fresh. He was curious to see how his horse reacts after a long time. Now all things are normal.

Omaha experiences advancement in Residential Construction permits

San Marcos Discovery Center starting online sale of plants from Saturday

According to a press release, the San Marcos Discovery Center is starting a new Online Store and offering curbside pickup for plants from Saturday. It is a limited-period sale and will wrap up till June.

The sale will go live weekly from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday at the Discovery Center, located at 430 Riverside Drive, and willing customers can schedule plant pickups.

Conrad Chappell, Discovery Center Specialist, said, “Spring is a great time to plant more natives, and the Discovery Center wants to help people connect with nature while at home.”

According to the spokesperson for the Center, the online store has a great variety of plants for sale, including trees, grasses, milkweed, and herbs. The plant prices are based on their pot sizes and starting from $2.50 for a four-inch pot.

“By growing these plants in their yards or at their businesses, our customers are sustaining pollinators, conserving water, and providing habitats to birds and other species,” said Chappell. “We have curated our inventory and kept it as affordable as possible to help nurture a healthy, diverse ecosystem in our region.”

Customers can also buy t-shirts and make donations for the partnership-based San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District monarch butterfly waystations.

Casinos in Atlantic City face huge losses due to Coronavirus closures

According to the figures released on Friday, Casinos in Atlantic city saw a 65% fall in their profits in the first quarter of the year.

The first quarter only covered two weeks of closure in March due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The officials are sure that the numbers will be even worse for the second quarter as casinos were shut all of April and so far, May, with no reopening scheduled soon.

The figures from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show that nine casinos collectively earned only a profit of $29.6 million in the first quarter this year as they had earned $85.6 million in the same period last year.

The big decline is "not surprising, given that most casinos continued to pay employees for two weeks after the shutdown," said Jane Bokunewicz, coordinator of a gambling studies institute at Stockton University outside Atlantic City. "With only internet gaming and a small number of sports betting revenue to offset payroll expenses, a significant decrease was inevitable."

Three casinos had suffered huge losses as compared to last year's first-quarter profits.

Bally's faced a loss of $8 million this year as compared to $2.8 million last year. Caesars went from 10.8 million profit to a $593,000 loss, and resorts went from a $3 million profit to a $3.4 million loss.

Sequera | LA PRENSA de Lara - El inicio de la semana en Barquisimeto fue de sangre después que ayer y en sólo 90 minutos, seis hombres murieran en distintos tiroteos contra funcionarios de las FAES y de la BRI, cuerpos de seguridad pertenecientes a la Policía Nacional Bolivariana (PNB), pues eran buscados para ponerles los ganchos.Las FAES fueron las que iniciaron las operaciones policiales. Eran las 5:30 de la mañana cuando los funcionarios, supuestamente, intercambiaron disparos contra Yender Javier Arriechi Mujica (22) alias "Virolo" en Santos Luzardo, líder de una banda delictiva que se dedicaba al robo y hurto. "Virolo" hizo caso omiso a las órdenes de los policías, por lo que decidió accionar su arma, generando el tiroteo, recibiendo un balazo fulminante en el pecho. Este hombre tenía tres entradas policiales, dos de ellas del año pasado por drogas y robo genérico, y otra del 2014 por robo de gandolas. Media hora después, se registraron dos plomazones con otros dos abatidos. Una de ellas fue en una casa de la carrera 2 del barrio El Carmen, en el que resultó abatido Jean Carlos GonzálezFréitez (39), alias "Jeans", quien tenía entradas por homicidio, robo, hurto y distribución de drogas entre 1999 y 2010. Según contaron vecinos de la zona, una ráfaga de tiros los despertó en el amanecer, pero no sabían qué estaba sucediendo. "Eran las 6:00 de la mañana cuando escuché los tiros, me asomé y vi que estaban los funcionarios de las FAES saliendo en una camioneta llevándose al muchacho muerto", dijo uno de los vecinos de "Jeans". Mientras que en el segundo tiroteo de las 6:00 de la mañana, murió Moisés Antonio Herrera Barreto. Herrera, según una fuente policial, pertenecía a la banda del "Misaelito", y también tenía un registro por robo de vehículo en el 2015. Supuestamente, se enfrentó con un revólver a los funcionarios en una casa, ubicada en el barrio El Turbio. Los últimos dos abatidos se registraron a las 7:00 de la mañana. Keiner Hibrahin TorresMonge, murió en un tiroteo con las FAES en La Carucieña tras ignorar la voz de alto que le dieron, pues él, supuestamente, pertenecía a una banda delictiva dedicada al hurto. Al mismo tiempo en la avenida 13 con calle 4 del sector Valle Lindo 2, de El Cují, funcionarios de la Brigada de Respuesta Inmediata (BRI) abatieron a Vilmer Reinoso Escobar (32), quien tenía dos entradas por droga y resistencia a la autoridad en 2009 y 2018. "A su familia la sacaron de la casa" Familiares de Jean Carlos González Fréitez (39), uno de los fallecidos en los 6 tiroteos que hubo ayer en Barquisimeto, específicamente en El Carmen, afirmaron en la morgue del hospital que los funcionarios llegaron a su casa para llevarse a toda su familia. "A su esposa y a sus cinco hijos se los llevaron porque les dijeron que tenían que firmar unos papeles, y dejaron a Jean Carlos con ellos en la casa. Después de ahí, no sabemos que pasó", comentó un familiar. Tanto sus familiares como vecinos contaron que él había estado preso en Cepella, Portuguesa, por hurto, hasta noviembre de 2019, y después de su liberación se había metido a comerciante.
