' Free Hong Kong ' posters confiscated i Philadelphia
The move came days after Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted his support for the protestors in Hong Kong, who immediately rebuked the league and its partners in China.
Some people at the Washington Wizards Basketball Game Wednesday against the Chinese team said their posters of supporting anti-government protesters in Hong Kong and protesting the abuse of an ethnic group in China had been confiscated
The event follows a similar incident on Tuesday, where two fans were thrown out of a game of 76ers in Philadelphia because they held small homemade signs supporting anti-government demonstrators in Hong Kong.
A group of Wizards claimed their flags had been confiscated at the Capital One Arena in Washington during a match against the Guangzhou Loong-Lions, the Chinese Basketball Association. Another man said that he had been advised to remove his sign supporting and leaving Hong Kong, so he chose to leave.
Patrick Hedger, 29, of Alexandria, Virginia, said he had a sign that read "Free Hong Kong" and chanted slogans like "We're not going to succumb to Chinese Communist repression" and "free speech."
"I realized I had to do something and take a stand," said Hedger, who lived briefly as a child in Hong Kong, and again when he was in a study abroad program.
Others in the Wizards game tweeted that they were allowed to wear "Free Hong Kong" shirts but a banner that read "Google Uyghurs," referring to a Muslim ethnic group that the U.S. government says is being repressed in China with systematic detention in internment camps, was confiscated

Ten Offensive Lines Rankings through Week 5-PFF 8. Jason Peters, Eagles of Philadelphia. Peters ' long-term successor was selected by the Eagles in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft this off-season, but the 16-year old seems far from done on the left side of the Eagles roster. He's not permitted a sack on 202 passes-blocking plays so far this season, giving up just three hits and six runs. 9. Lane Johnson, Eagles of Philadelphia. Peters ' colleague on the other side of the line is up first, and they're creating a set of bookends that still have a sack to give away. On the field for 212 pass-blocking snaps so far in 2019, Johnson has allowed two injuries and nine hurries and has also earned a 76.1 PFF run-blocking rating for 144 run-blocking plays. 2. Brandon Brooks, Eagles of Philadelphia. Brooks led both the run blocker and the pass defense during the first five weeks of the season, giving up just one strike and three hurries on 202 pass-block shots. His PFF Run-Blocking Score 84.3 rates fourth so far this season, with Brooks making plenty of space for the backs of the Eagles to play with. 10. 10. Jason Kelce, Eagles of Philly. Kelce's presence on this list puts us up to four Eagles to the offensive line ranked among the top 10 positions in the standings. It was a little below average in pass protection, enabling a slip, a blow, and eight hurries from 212 pass-blocking shots, but it was good as a run blocker, delivering a PFF run-blocking rating of 68.7.
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police say Saturday night, two brothers were accountable for a violent home invasion in North Philadelphia. Dominic and Mark Wellmon risk kidnapping, rape, allegations of kidnap and related offenses. They allegedly broke into a house on North 19th Street's 2100 block at about 11 p.m. Police say two masked gunmen burst into a home in North Philadelphia on Saturday night and fatally shot one man in the head and then robbed the trousers of another man while trying to invade another home only blocks away. Just before 11 p.m., the incident started. North 19th Street 2100.
Two people wearing ski masks and armed with guns pushed at the gate, authorities said. The people made their way to the home's second floor, where they discovered in a rear bedroom, two men and two girls. Detectives said the men were in need of cash. A 52-year-old man was tied up and shot in the back of the face, according to investigators; the attackers then took the trousers of the second man and left the home with the two girls.
"They went through the house and found no cash, so I think they shot the victim out of rage," Captain George Fuchs of the Philadelphia Police said. "We took the two females to another house with them afterward." Authorities said the two armed men were then trying to break into another home on Diamond Street's 1700 street.
"They're trying to get into that property when a male opened the door when he saw the guys running with the weapon he began and they fired at him. He didn't hit him," Fuchs said. The women were able to separate themselves in the scuffle and sprint out of the scene. While the guy from the first domestic invasion would sprint from home and flag down the police.
Authorities cut through the area and found many outerwear items and a ski mask in North 16th Street's 1600 street. "The police received information that the males who did the shooting actually took off their clothing in a roadway," Fuchs Saud. Authorities said they were later caught up by police to the perpetrators and placed them in detention. Police said the two women and the person were able to identify all perpetrators accurately from the original home invasion.
Philadelphia is about to experience a rare opportunity together with the rest of the country. No, this isn't Halley's Comet's return— this is in 2061. This is the United States. Survey!-Census!
A population survey is carried out every ten years and acts as a framework for the distribution of almost $700 trillion of federal resources, for the creation of electoral boundaries and for the restoration of the congressional seats. It's necessary, so yeah.
The questionnaire begins in the middle of March and the test continues until 31 July 2020. Due to the great opportunity, people were called on to serve as Census Champions in the City of Philadelphia. This admirable community of Good Samaritans are aware of census concerns and tasked with serving their neighborhoods for reasons and policy, and is ready to answer all queries about this process.
The idea is that people trust families more than paying outsiders who are firing data on a self-reported questionnaire door-to-door. There are a number of the section on the homepage of Philadelphia about how to compete, but it turns out that it is very difficult to figure out how to meet Philly's squad. "How do we ask the role of Census Champions?" Billy Penn sent an e-mail to a writer. Hard to acquire Philly311 information!
The outcomes of the census impact elections. After the population count, these 50 nations must draw new redistributive charts. A calculation based on the population recorded provides the federal government with data on how to divide up between the required 385 positions. The data helps to see how many federal money communities such as Philadelphia get annually.
Importantly, the reliability of the survey depends completely on the presence of volunteer residents. It seldom issues fines for failure to take the census, but it requires all of us more than 300 million to take up the census and create a dangerous kind of honor system.
This year, for the first time the census was electronic, introducing a new level of fog to the red tape. 80 percent of American households were scheduled for online surveys by the Census Bureau. This could be particularly challenging in a town such as Philadelphia where the digital divide has dramatically increased in recent years. There are still paid jobs to survey employees. The vacancies are seasonal or part-time and support the 2020 survey to be completed. The pay rate for census workers in Philadelphia is 21 cents an hour.

It’s weird to sit here and think that the perfect Philadelphia Union regular season was still somewhat disappointing.
I don’t think that’s a “Negadelphia” take; I think it’s possibly what most fans are feeling when you consider that this team lost three of four games down the stretch, played their way out of first place, and then blew an opportunity to host 2 playoff games. They also blew a chance at sneaking into the CONCACAF Champion’s League, which would have been a fantastic consolation prize for a record-setting, yet likely trophy-less season. This club just always seems to reach these significant tipping points before coming up short, which you saw over these past 2 weeks, in all four prior playoff losses, and in the three U.S. Open Cup final defeats.
1. This is still a wildly successful season
16 wins is a franchise record.
55 points is a franchise record.
Beating Red Bull in a home playoff game would still make for an incredibly successful season. The Union has never won a playoff game EVER, so getting over that hump this year would be significant. They have not even hosted a playoff game since October of 2011, which was 8 years ago.
But I do think this squad left a lot on the table after sitting in first place for a significantly large chunk of the season. They had bad losses in Montreal, Salt Lake City, and Chicago. They dropped too many points during the 3 games homestand against Portland, Seattle, and Colorado. A stellar campaign still brought with it a lot of head-scratching results.
It’s strange to think that this team was only 1 win and 5 points better than last year’s squad. Watching both plays, this Union roster felt like it was so much good than the Borek Dockal/Cory Burke/C.J. Sapong team, but only finished slightly ahead in terms of total points and wins. If you put both squads against each other, I think the 2019 Union wins rather comfortably.
Autumn has come, and so have the flavors of the season, popping up on menus of bars, breweries, and cafes all over the city. From cocktails with Honey crisp apple juice ice cubes to beers brewed with pumpkin puree (and dark chocolate) to extra-cream lattes influenced by pumpkin pie, here are 6 must-try drinks to test out this fall.
Apple of My Eye in 1 Tippling Spot
A sip of this brandy drink will transfer you from a vintage lounge chair to an apple orchard. Staff at the cozy Center City cocktail bar Sweet Honey crisp apple juice, then freeze the juice in jumbo-sized ice cube trays. Two cubes of both of them are shaken with Laird's applejack, homemade apple butter, and honey simple syrup to make this slushy, slightly tangy cocktail served in a glass.
Trick or Treat Chocolate Pumpkin Porter for the Evil Genius Beer Company
Without pumpkin beer, it wouldn't fall Evil Genius brings the porter edition to the next level by adding dark chocolate post-fermentation, which gives the beer a sweet aroma. For this beer, the Kensington hangout brewers add real purée of pumpkin to the mash and classic pie spices such as cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg to the boil. And at 7.8% ABV, this one promises to help you warm up during a crisp evening in the brewery's beer garden.
Cran-Rosemary Espresso Tonic and Pumpkin Pie Lattes, Herman's Coffee
Whether you want a cold jolt of seasonally spiced caffeine or a warming pumpkin treat, Herman’s Coffee has you covered. Option one features a double shot of espresso poured over Fever-Tree tonic that’s mixed with cranberry bitters and a rosemary-infused simple drink. The iced-down refresher is ended with a sprig of rosemary. For a home-made take on a mainstream fall treat, go for option two: the pumpkin pie-inspired latte, spiked with spiced syrup made from fresh pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice. A splash of sweetened condensed milk is poured in just before the steamed milk, adding extra creaminess to this decadent cup. Freshly grated nutmeg tops it all off.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ early come back on Matisse Thybulle has been promising.
In June, Matisse Thybulle was the 15th-ranked prospect on our 2019 NBA Draft board. The Philadelphia 76ers traded up to select Thybulle at No. 20, adding another young and defense-first wing to a growing 2nd unit.
Summer League was a series of flashes for Thybulle. He had extraordinary moments on defense but looked the part of an unfinished product on offense. His 3-point shot was better than expected, but poor handles and a tendency to rush shots at the rim often prevailed.
Fast forward to the end of the training camp and the Sixers’ annual Blue x White scrimmage. The White team — which featured the projected 2nd unit — ran out of a starting 5 of Trey Burke, James Ennis, Mike Scott, Kyle O’Quinn … and Thybulle. That raised a few eyebrows.
All summer, the discussion was about Ennis and Zhaire Smith splitting backup minutes on the wing. Some ads even threw Furkan Korkmaz into the conversation after a strong FIBA World Cup. He's a shooter and under Brett Brown, he has the most experience.
But it was Thybulle, the real rookie who got the starting nod over Smith. Korkmaz was on the Blue Team, where he played significant minutes and was impressive in his own right. Yet Thybulle shined, perhaps more than any other player on the roster on Saturday's scrimmage.
Unfortunately, there are no official records were kept, so much of Thybul's statistical production was left to the imagination or beat reporters counting on their hands The general consensus is that in the first half Thybulle had six deflections in the area. He's been everywhere.
Thybulle showed his special defensive speed and anticipation, bolting into passing lanes and providing a persistent irritant for the White Team, He contributed meaningfully to the White's half-time lead, though it would evaporate early in the third quarter.
The Blue Team was plagued with turnover and almost everyone seemed to be involved Thybulle. He got his hands on the passes picked up pockets and managed to rack up a couple of impressive blocks as well — including one chase-down block on a Josh Richardson three-point attempt. He spent most of his time protecting Ben Simmons and doing so with incredible effectiveness.
Teammates have been raving about Thybul's performance all week. Al Horford admired Thybul's feeling for the game, noting that the defense "comes easy for him." After the scrimmage, Simmons said he "hates" going against Thybulle. It's obvious that the 22-year-old is making a strong first impression.
