7 states join consortium including PA, NJ and Del to buy medical equipment
An increasing number of cases had lead to the scarcity of medical equipment in many states. To solve this issue, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware will be joining a multi-state consortium which is aimed to provide supplies of medical equipment through regional supply chains.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, and Delaware Gov. John Carney announced on Sunday in a news conference hosted by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo that they will be joining the cooperation. These three states will also be joined by New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
All these seven states will jointly work to develop a supply chain of medical equipment, including PPE, ventilators, and testing kits.
The shortage of medical equipment had been a problem for the entire U.S., with states complaining about bidding wars against each other for equipment.
Carney highlighted the problems with purchasing these for small states.
“If we’re going head-to-head with New York, we’re not going to get [the medical equipment],” Carney said. “If we’re along shoulder-to-shoulder with [Gov. Cuomo] and with Gov. Murphy and Gov. Wolf, we’ve got a good chance of getting a better price and of getting the product that we need.”
Wolf also appreciated the benefits of the combined market as this can encourage manufacturing what we need and even manufacturing test kits.
Governors also highlighted that the consortium not only aims to purchase the equipment but also try to manufacture our stuff.

Elderclient specialist barber huge lose and lost many clients due to COVID-19
Ken McCormick is a barber, and his clients are not just regular clients, but many of them are former missionaries, rocket scientists, and war heroes.
McCormick is a mobile barber in Surprise and travels in the valley, cutting hairs and shaving for the men who can't leave their home or even can't remember that they need one.
"I'll cut half of the gentleman's hair, and then the caregivers will have to come in and flip them over to the other side so I can finish cutting the other side. It's very gratifying to work because a lot of people have forgotten about these people," he said.
Most of his clients live in behavioural health facilities, nursing homes, and memory care units, which are amongst the hardest hit by COVID-19.
McCormick said: "The sad thing is some of my people won't be there anymore,"
He had lost all his appointments, and his total income had stopped. Now he tries to contact the unemployment cell to find some aid.
He believes that he can easily get qualified for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program--which launches May 12--, but he is disappointed by the execution plan of the state. He is unable to get his questions answered by the Arizona Department of Economic Security.
He had not received any answers yet, but he believes that "I will be back. I love my people."
