Boy vowed to walk again after a painful shooting accident
Semaj O’Branty, an 11-year old is just like any other kid but a fatal accident led him to start all over again. After 3- months’ treatment and rehab in hospital, Semaj returned home two days ago. “I’m able to stand by myself, but I can’t walk now," he said Friday night.
In November 2019, a gunman fired a bunch of shots while driving along Frankford Street. Semaj was caught in the crossfire, when he was walking back home from school. Now, he’s trying to learn how to talk and walk again, while the shooter remains on the run. “I used to go to the bathroom and pray and cry all the time. It’s sad for a little kid to hurt like that and not know what’s going on," Semaj's mom, Anita Williams, said.
There is sadness, anger and distress but the parents focus quickly goes back to the young boy. "My son is the lucky one. He’s still here. He couldn’t be here. He could have died," Williams said. Semaj is full of hope that he’ll soon be able to walk and play football with his friends.
