Tough times always come with a backup
Several people are working two hours to get ends to balance. That is the condition confronting waiters at South Philadelphia's The Victor Café. The Italian restaurant, a cornerstone of the Philly culinary scene, was forced to close March 16, after restaurants were told to terminate the dine-in operation by the council. Dine-in service is at the center of its company, along with the operatic performances this occurs throughout the dinner.
All the restaurant waiters are classically trained opera singers, and they perform live every 15-20 minutes during restaurant hours. "I wake up thinking it will be the same." It's like being stuck in a glass cage, and being unable to do anything about it. "Stewart, 24, has been employed for about three years at the restaurant. Most employees are paycheck residents." I guarantee that they can compensate for their living expenses.
For the centuries-old business, the difficulty isn't new. "The Depression is Wonderful. Customers weren't involved in the red and white-checkered tabletops," says Pamela DiStefano, whose family has operated the restaurant since its conception. There's no job, "Stewart said. Muse is still afraid that the restaurant sector won't come around as long as restaurants are reopening. I believe that no one would feel comfortable enough to venture out to food and pay for a meal." If you've got to pick between paying rent or going to a cafe, you'll prefer rent.
