Since late 2019, COVID-19 may have been spreading in Bay Area
The virus, as a new report suggests, could have been in the Bay Area long before they started looking for it. The Health Officials are now trying to figure how long COVID-19 has prevailed. It could have been in Bay Area and circulating since late 2019 December, suggested Santa Clara County's Chief Executive, Dr. Jeff Smith, in an article in the LA Times. This data was collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Local health departments. Dr. Smith said because of the severe flu season that Bay Area suffered, it overlapped in symptoms of Coronavirus that lead to lagging in detection. The guidelines, then, were to screen travelers who had recently been in Wuhan, China, while it was already spreading within the community. The first case of the Bay Area was in late February of a woman who had been sick for weeks. From that point, every positive case pointed to a local spread. Due to the delayed start of community surveillance, the medical leaders could not catch the "community spread" of the illness earlier. Researchers are looking into the blood banks in Los Angeles and San Francisco, among other major cities, to see if lingering antibodies can show them what was missed.

One injured in a hit and run crash
The Ohio State Highway Patrol found a vehicle that was in connection with a hit-skip crash in Madison County. The collision occurred last Thursday morning and left the man severely injured. The car, a 2019-2020 maroon Toyota RAV4, Adventure package, was found on Tuesday afternoon at a home in Columbus. The exact location in the city has not been revealed yet. The vehicle owner was not the driver during the crash, and the owner is now cooperating with the investigation. The description of the vehicle was matched with police records, and they were able to locate the RAV4 after checking several homes. It was processed for evidence.
The person was driving the vehicle in the westbound lanes of I-70 when the driver forced Peter Baumann's car into the path of a commercial truck. The truck driver drove off the right side of the road to avoid hitting the car. Baumann then pulled the vehicle to the side and got out of his car. The RAV4 driver then struck him and drove off. He suffered brain trauma, multiple fractures to the face and skull, multiple breaks to his body, bruised lungs, and fractured ribs.
The case is ongoing, but no charges have been filed.
Austin ISD finds it difficult to track students who have not attended classes
Students have gone missing as schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many are not participating in the virtual classrooms as they enter the second week of remote learning. Some kids haven't even attended the sessions. Due to the out of date addresses, the Austin ISD is having trouble finding many of the students to provide them with Chromebook computers.
Magdalena Hernandez's daughter, who is an autistic 3rd grader at Barrington Elementary still hasn't been able to do any online classes in the school's special education program. The population of economically disadvantaged students and special education students is on top of the list of receiving a Chromebook, according to AISD Director of Technology Kevin Schwartz. However, Hernandez has not seen it happen with her daughter.
AISD explained that their main issue is locating the families with students from 3rd through 12th grade as there are no updated databases of home addresses or have otherwise been unreachable. However, Hernandez says that the process is taken too long, even though contact information has not changed. There's now an online survey on the AISD website for students who are having trouble attending the virtual classes.
