Cruise ships allowed to dock finally since the beginning of the pandemic
Cruise ships are finally being allowed to dock, and the passengers were carefully sent home to practice self-isolation safely. The ships Zaandam and Rotterdam docked on Friday. Soon after, the 14 critically ill passengers were taken to Florida hospitals. It is not clear if the four passengers that died, two of which were COVID-19 cases, in the Zaandam would be removed from the ship.
The passengers were taken out of the ships systematically with the Floridians removed first followed by the other passengers. They were then transported in buses to the airport to board chartered flights home without going through the terminal.
The last ship that carried passengers to a U.S. port, since the pandemic, will dock on Saturday. The Coral Princess will arrive at the Port Everglades terminal with more than 1,000 passengers that have been isolated in their cabins. The 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 are also on board.
Broward County Mayor Dale Holness stated on Thursday that the top priority was to protect residents while providing a contained disembarkation option for people on board who need to get safely home.
Zaandam had set sail on March 7, the day before the State Department warned people against cruising during the pandemic and was then denied permission to dock in the South American ports. It had 442 guests and 603 crew aboard while 808 guests and 583 crew were on the Rotterdam. The Rotterdam was sent last week to take in some of the passengers and provide assistance to the Zaandam.

Amid COVID-19 spreading fear, pregnant women forced to choose between partner or doula in the delivery room
Due to the fear of coronavirus, many to-be-mom women are afraid of their birth plan. As per the latest instructions, only one person is allowed to stay in the delivery room-either the husband or the doula. Alina Shinkarsky, a pregnant woman of San Francisco, was in the phase of giving birth to a child in the coming days. Shinkarsky's were going to be first-time parents. The couple were really nervous about the decision to be taken. Shinkarsky said, "How do you tell your partner that I love you, but I'm so sorry I prefer someone else in the delivery room with me for the birth of your first child,". The doula Jen Darwin is there to provide emotional and physical (like massage and acupressure) support to women who are giving birth. Darwin understands that this decision of selecting one is very difficult, whether to choose family and husband for seeing the child for the first time or the doula for support because both are equally important. Finally, Shinkarsky chose her husband and decided to interact with Darwin in a video call. The Doula community and midwives are not very happy with these new instructions.

A facility reports three new positive cases
A total of seven employees and two residents at a nursing home in Hilliard have now been tested positive for the virus after three employees, and another resident reported their test results.
In March, the Mill Run Rehabilitation facility confirmed the first positive case, who was a health worker at the facility. By last week, they reported two more employees, and a resident tested positive.
The employees reporting the virus had already been practicing self quarantining at their home for up to 11 days. The resident, who was also diagnosed, had a mild fever and was isolated soon after but showed no additional symptoms.
Some of the employees seem to have recovered and will be cleared for work soon. The facility has also taken additional measures for safety, like establishing a dedicated and isolated wing of the facility for any residents testing positive or suspects of it. The staff in the isolation wing are required to wear a face shield and mask, a full protective gown and gloves.
The temperatures of the residents are taken every four hours and given a respiratory/COVID-19 assessment multiple times in a day. The facility is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected every day, using hospital-grade disinfectants. Training is also provided on handwashing techniques and cleanliness to the staff and residents.
Along with these and more, the center is also giving full-time employees $1,500 and part-time employees $750, as hero bonuses. They also receive catered meals.

Free cell phones allow homeless people to find handwashing facilities
A new tool, which is an interactive map, will allow homeless people and vulnerable people to find handwashing or toilets and showering stations. The only issue here is that it can only be accessed by smartphones or computers. This measure comes as Austin-Travis County's COVID-19 numbers continue to increase daily.
Many people may not have the resources to stay safe during this pandemic. Many do not have smartphones and, therefore, would not be able to access this tool.
Vella Karman, Interim Homeless Services Officer with Austin Public Health, said that they were handing out flyers and verbal education by volunteers and first responders that meet homeless people. The City departments and community partners have also given away phones to people experiencing homelessness.
The other barrier that is seen in this situation is food insecurity. A Food Access Task Force is working with community partners to help with this issue, and a Behavioral Health Task Force has promised to address community needs.
The city also announced on Tuesday that the Crowne Plaza near I-35 and E Hwy 290 would be used to quarantine the homeless or those who can't safely do so at home.
